FOURTH GRADE CURRICULUM

READING

Fourth Grade students become more purposeful readers and increasingly confident writers. Using HMH Into Reading and Empowering Writers, students strengthen comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and written expression while learning to think more deeply about what they read.

Students explore a variety of texts, identify important ideas and details, and support their thinking with evidence. Writing instruction helps students organize ideas, develop strong paragraphs, add meaningful detail, and communicate clearly across different types of writing.

HANDWRITING

Using Zaner-Bloser Handwriting, Fifth Grade students continue to refine their cursive fluency, legibility, and consistency. Students strengthen letter formation, spacing, and connections while using cursive with greater ease and independence in their written work.

MATHEMATICS

Using the Sadlier Mathematics curriculum, Fourth Grade students build on foundational skills as they move toward more complex mathematical thinking. Students strengthen multiplication and division, while developing deeper understanding of number operations, fractions, geometry, measurement, patterns, and data.

Emphasis is placed on problem-solving, mathematical reasoning, and applying skills in meaningful ways, helping students build the confidence and strong foundation needed for upper-level mathematics.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Using myWorld Social Studies: We Are Texas, Fourth Grade students explore the history, geography, people, and culture of Texas. Students learn how Texas developed over time while building an understanding of the events and individuals that helped shape our state.

Through reading, discussion, maps, and engaging activities, students strengthen geography, critical-thinking, and historical analysis skills while making connections between Texas history and the world they know today.

SCIENCE

Using the Scott Foresman Science curriculum, Fourth Grade students explore life, earth, and physical science through observation, investigation, and hands-on learning. Students study topics such as living organisms and their habitats, sound and energy, Earth’s changing surface, and natural systems.

Throughout the year, students develop important scientific skills as they ask questions, gather evidence, make observations, and communicate their findings, encouraging curiosity and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
